Up North

I watched old ladies jumping happily into the freezing water while I was wearing a scarf and refusing to take my shoes off. I dreamed of having more layers to cover me up, while people were sunbathing. This is how someone from the South feels visiting a seaside up North.

If from Hamburg you want to go to the seaside, you just take a train and in more or less one hour you are in Travemünde, where big and wonderful houses look at the sea, where big cargo boats sail up North and were eating an ice cream is not a good idea because it’s way too cold – not for Germans. But I get why people sit in those extremely cute little wooden “houses/benches”: the wind is so cold, that resisting more than fifteen minutes without them would be impossible!

Chasing water

13063064_10209470032970727_8480461697948640384_o

Don’t call it Venice, because it’s not the same. It’s Hamburg, simply Hamburg. Destroyed, bombed, hated and now so much loved, this city is overwhelmingly active and happy. And so full of water: we all chase water here. We all chase that glimpse of sparkle, glitter and shimmer. We all chase a big natural mirror and we stare speechless at the buildings staring at themselves.

Eternal corners: secret Rome

But, when in Rome, I also manages to take some walks, to wander around those beautiful streets.

Do you know what I LOVE about Rome? Well, I adore how tiny some streets can be and how majestic some others are. I love how you can stumble upon History sipping a coffee and eating an ice cream. I love  how suddenly, without you expecting it, some very old building pops up behind a corner.

I love how romantic and elegant it feels being there, how shiny and bright the light is and how funny it is with all those Vespas around!

I walked around and I could see those streets where I had already been. Where I was smiling and happy. And so I walked over the clouds living my memory in the present.

And that’s what happened: I got lost the city, I saw corners and pavements that I had already met and I introduced them to new ones.

I observed the tourists and the locals.

I got lost in little streets and big squares.

I walked with my nose up in the air, and stumbled upon some adorable Ape Car.

And I thought that, after all, it was much better last year, when my source of inspiration was with me in those street.

But, dear Rome, you most definitely are beautiful, breathtaking and mysterious. I love how unpredictable, historical and magical you can be.

So, here are some corners, some angles, some surprises I found. Yes, surprises! Walking around in this city is like a treasure hunt: you look for the buildings and you find happiness.

Ciao.

Rome sightseeing: the eternal city through the taxi window

I went to Rome. It was beautiful.

It wasn’t a voyage de plaisir, but a voyage de travail, meaning that my boss and I went there to get some work done: there was a wine convention to go to.

We didn’t have much time to visit the city and to relax, so I decided to take some pictures while I was sitting in all the taxis we had to take.

I stole moments here and there from locals and tourists wandering in the eternal city and realized that it really is a marvelous place.

All those orange-red houses, those romantic corners and the light! O gosh, there is so much light in that city! I know that Paris is called ville-lumiere, but Rome should be called ville du soleil.

Light capturing: a “thank you” to an adorable stranger

The other day an adorable girl from Melbourne (I think she is from Melbourne: all I know is that right now she is there) commented on an Instagram photos telling me one of the sweetest and most moving things someone ever told me about the pictures I take:

“The way you capture the light is so moving”

I was so moved and Jen’s comment made me smile so incredibly much. Thank you Jen! Thank you very much!

Please, stop by and look at her pictures: for me looking at them feels like a garden tea party with pastel colours: Jen’s Instagram.

So, here is some more light from that very same cold morning

Stolen thoughts and modern art

I am one of those people who run across museums.

I don’t know why, but I visit museums very quickly and, when I am with my friend Alice, it’s ok: we both are very speedy and we even check if we actually can break our records, but when I am with Nico it’s a veeeery different story.

He observes, he reads, he looks, he stares at, he goes back and thinks about what he saw. You can actually read in his eyes every little thought popping into his mind about the exposition we are visiting.

All this thoughts and reflexions going through his mind slow down my olympic visits to museums and expositions, giving me a lot of spare time and allowing me to take some pictures. I love observing people in museums: everyone is so absorbed and captured by what’s in front of them. Everything is so silent and still. So silent and still that you can actually hear your own heart beating and your eyelashes blinking.

This was at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Strasbourg. It was a cold and rainy day and I absolutely didn’t understand the art that I saw. On my bucket list for this new year: learn about modern art (and wear uncomfortable shoes in a museum, so that I can slow down during my visit and keep up with N.).

Fairytale gone wild

It was cold, but not very cold. It was cold enough to cuddle on the sofa and to put on long socks and to wrap our necks with a soft scarf.

It was winter in Germany. And I loved it.

I spent the last two weeks with beautiful people, in a stunning place recovering from Morocco, being lazy and admiring how incredibly beautiful nature can be.

We were at the door of the Black Forest and it was pure magic. It was a fairytale. I could imagine Snow White and the dwarfs saying hi from a tree, Hansel and Gretel looking for candies and Bambi running around (Bambi for me still has his mommy and the hunter is in jail).

I captured some of those moments to share them with you: enjoy the magic! And Happy New Year.

Getting lost in Winter Wonderland

After so many weeks in Morocco, I finally was back to Italy and I got immediately lost.

But this time I got lost in my garden: Fall was finally there and it felt like I was walking in Fairy-Tale-Land.

I don’t know if it was the light, the colors, the frost on the leaves or the fact that I was home, but it felt like I was walking in a winter wonderland dream.

I took my new camera out for her first walk and run out with my father to take some pictures and here are the results!

Last random-postcards-Tuesday from Morocco (I hope!)

Well, I guess that last week wasn´t my last one in Morocco. I´ll explain a little bit more once I´ll get back to Italy, now I have black smoke coming out of my ears, my skin is green and my paws are ready to kill: dragon-Arianna is writing, not panda-Arianna.

Anyway, it´s random-postcards-Tuesday, so let´s cheer with some random postcards! I really really hope that this actually will be my last week here in Morocco, and these are some of the things I am going to miss the most, apart from the stunning landscapes!

  • I am going to miss finding dates everywhere I look, even if I had waaaay too much of them!
  • I am going to miss seeing adorable donkey here and there!
  • I am going to miss this lovely turtle always sun bathing on the same stone in the middle of the river!

Bye bye Morocco! I´ll see you soon, but not that soon: now I really need to go back home for a while.

The day I met my new best friend: Mimoune the donkey

I had no idea that donkeys could be that beautiful.

So, one day we were taking a walk here in the canyon and Ahmed came with us. Luckily Ahmed has his own animal shadow following him everywhere he goes: Mimoune, the donkey.

Donkeys are quite small and here they are charged so much that it breaks my heart. But Mimoune is a very loved animal and he is treated very very well!

I couln´t stop staring at him, at his stunning eyes (please, look at how beautiful the shape is!), at his long and fluffy ears and at his curly hair.

He is a one year old donkey very very cute and sweet: he follows his owner around everywhere, he is very stubborn and quite spiteful, but in an adorable way. He hates being left alone and he immediately starts crying and calling Ahmed when he realizes that he isn´t around.

Having one in the garden would be so nice! I just have to convince my parents that adding two donkeys (if we take just one, he would feel lonely) to the family would be a good idea. And I have to see how to hide them in my airplane luggage: suggestions, ideas?
