Between Aoufous and Erfoud, following the route nationale 13, there is a water source.

The source, called Aïn El Ati, has been discovered in 1987 and has a natural jet of more than 2 meters, which is quite amazing if you think that we are in the desert!

The problem is that this water can´t be used for agricultural irrigation, because it contains way too many mineral salts and, from what I understood, they are not good for the plants.

So, this incredibly powerful water source has become a tourist attraction for some locals driving around (I haven´t seen Europeans there).

As you can see from the pictures, all around the source there is absolutely nothing. Really nothing! This is why the existence of the Aïn El Ati is so incredible: a powerful water source jumping out of the ground in a Moroccan desert region.

And now a little treasure hunt: find the Tuareg man sitting in the shade!
