That sunset on top of everything

You see the pictures of it everywhere, Instagram is full of shots of this view, Google has an incredible number of those pictures and everyone has been there, but you don’t know stunning it actually is, until you go there.

And then I finally went there as well: Top of the Rocks! Stunning. Just stunning. The view, the air, the colors and the happy faces of all the people around you staring at the same stunning view.

We were lucky enough to go there right before sunset and we had the most stunning view. The colors were changing so quickly that it felt like being a movie. NYC is so big, so majestic and intimidating, but from up there it was just a huge jungle full of stories and humans. And yes, we were on the top of the World.

The rain is not leaving us alone, but I – more or less- got used to it: Hamburg shines anyway between a dry moment and a storm. Just remember to put on you rubber boots, cover your hair and walk around the Alster lake, where stunning houses, boats and flowers wait for you.

Up North

I watched old ladies jumping happily into the freezing water while I was wearing a scarf and refusing to take my shoes off. I dreamed of having more layers to cover me up, while people were sunbathing. This is how someone from the South feels visiting a seaside up North.

If from Hamburg you want to go to the seaside, you just take a train and in more or less one hour you are in Travemünde, where big and wonderful houses look at the sea, where big cargo boats sail up North and were eating an ice cream is not a good idea because it’s way too cold – not for Germans. But I get why people sit in those extremely cute little wooden “houses/benches”: the wind is so cold, that resisting more than fifteen minutes without them would be impossible!

I always ask myself how the life of the people I see is. What are their names, what are their stories, what are their dreams and what are their fears. I see their faces, hair and clothes and I share cities, streets, buildings, noises and images with them. But who are those people? What do they do? How come that we crossed paths at that exact moment and in that exact place? Visiting the Rathaus of Hamburg the other day, I watched this new and elegant married couple taking pictures and I started wondering about their lives, about their being and about their dreams. I don’t know who they are, their names or when they met, but I know that they looked stunning, elegant and in love. And witnessing this romantic moment was a privilege.

Brunch moment

Isn’t brunch the most incredible idea? When you get up late, you don’t have to rush to work and you just know that somewhere, in a nice bar, a lovely meal halfway between breakfast and lunch is waiting for you. You sit still a little asleep, take a sip of coffee and eat cheese staring at flowers on your table and chat about your week.

Since I moved to Hamburg, I have been craving for some little and romantic places and I finally found one: N. was in town and his family too, so we met at this stunning vegetarian/vegan café called Café Koppel and had a beautiful brunch. The location and the table setting were so gorgeous that I could not help but taking plenty of pictures while eating, enjoy! O, and those sugar crystals are so beautiful!

Think pink

Have you have watched the movie Funny Face? It’s a movie from 1957 with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire, where the two take pictures, dance and sing in Paris feeling happy, in love and wearing Givenchy: a very nice movie. There is a scene where the editor of the fashion magazine Quality decides that the next fashion trend is going to be pink. And she starts singing and dancing surrounded by pink dresses and accessories. This is how it feels now in Hamburg.

If a couple of weeks ago it was snowing and freezing, spring finally decided to appear and to show us plenty of marvelous flowers and colors. And pink is the main color. Next to my office there is a big and beautiful park full of water, plants, flowers and bobò thoughts, but nothing can equal the beauty of those pink trees. Nothing!

Chasing water

Don’t call it Venice, because it’s not the same. It’s Hamburg, simply Hamburg. Destroyed, bombed, hated and now so much loved, this city is overwhelmingly active and happy. And so full of water: we all chase water here. We all chase that glimpse of sparkle, glitter and shimmer. We all chase a big natural mirror and we stare speechless at the buildings staring at themselves.

New York streets (throwback time)

New York city is incredible. It’s so alive, so big, so happy and moving. You can breath tension, happiness, love and magnificence. You can wander those streets and meet so many different people, so many faces, so many colors, so many different buildings.

The streets are alive. They are the meeting point of everything and everyone. They are so full of life, stories and thoughts: how many people with different stories have walked your steps? How many people have seen what you are now seeing? How many? So many!

I loved the streets in New York. I loved their stories and their force. I loved being part of this amazing anthill.
